Church Marketing: The 4 Ps
By Larry Witzel

A recent article in REV! magazine described a movement by local churches away from mimicking the range of ministries found at mega churches, and toward finding each one’s unique ministry orientation:
The organic/simple church impetus will encourage congregations to discern the one thing they’re good at that fills needs in their community, creating niche and boutique churches that don’t try to be all things to all people and thus embrace their unique God-print…This is a healthy move toward discovering each congregation’s strengths and leveraging these instead of trying to compete with others.

Here at SermonView, we couldn’t agree more. We believe each local church has a unique ministry signature, a confluence of the body’s unique mix of spiritual gifts and the surrounding community’s needs.

But there’s a reason small churches try to copy what others have done: it’s easier than blazing a new trail. Most of us have no idea how to invent a ministry program meeting unique needs completely from scratch.

While it may be easier to follow someone else’s model, it rarely results in maximum effectiveness, because no two churches have exactly the same gift mix, and no two communities have precisely the same needs.

PREACHING IDEAS
New Year’s

Every year we make resolutions to improve our lives. The thought is that we will keep what is good and change what is bad. This process looks a lot like metal work. You super heat the metal to remove the imperfections and create a better piece of steel. The key to the process is heat, and in our lives that translates to our passion. Let’s look at some ways we can fire up our faith for 2009.

Sermon Series: On Fire for God

Sermon 1: Fire up your faith
Work on increasing your faith in God not in yourself. (Romans 12:3–4)

Sermon 2: Fire up your relationships
Work on increasing your love for others. (Romans 12:10–12)

Sermon 3: Fire up your compassion
Learning to love people in the darkest times, helps us understand God’s love for us. (Romans 12:17–21)
